During Ramadan meals are very important as most of the day is spent fasting. And what better way to celebrate a religious meal than a delicious dessert. Luqaymat is a great dessert that is not only popular during Ramadan, its popular throughout Saudi Arabia. This sweet dumpling resembles a donut hole, this doughy treat is something that is easy for people of other cultures to accept and is bound to be a favorite among all your friend and family.

Batter Ingredients

  • 2 ½ cups flour
  • 1 tablespoon yeast
  • 2 cups warm milk
  • 3 tablespoons yogurt
  • 3 tablespoons corn flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Syrup Ingredients

  • 1 cup sugar
  • ½ cup water
  • 1 tablespoon honey

Mix batter flour, yeast, corn flour and salt together, stir in yogurt and milk. Cover batter with a damp bread cloth or waxed paper and let rise for at least a half an hour.

Heat oil for deep frying. Heat syrup ingredients over low heat until boiling and then let boil for a couple minutes.

Drop batter balls, about the size of donut holes, into the oil and fry until golden brown, dip in syrup and set aside to cool
